layout 3 ways Q+A

Akeem had some great questions this morning:
1. Can we use grays in the spreads?
Yes – gray is A-ok.

2. Is the point of the assignment to focus on the A-B-A concept and InDesign paragraph styles?
Yes, those are the key ideas.

Graphic Design Inspiration - Margo Chase

Hello, all.

I stumbled on these videos from Lynda.com about Margo Chase this morning, and I thought they were kind of cool...

To give you a better idea of what they are about, here's the description Lynda.com has posted:

Margo Chase is one of the most influential graphic designers of our time. Over the past 20 years, Margo's highly expressive work has been seen in movie posters for Bram Stoker's Dracula; on album covers for top performers like Cher, Madonna, and Prince; and in ads for brands such as Starbucks, Target, and Procter & Gamble. With a background in biology, Margo migrated to the world of graphic design, where she brought a unique, organic quality to logos, lettering, and identity design. Never one to live life passively, Margo has developed a love for competitive aerobatic flying in her own high-performance plane. This installment of Creative Inspirations takes viewers inside the studio, portfolio, and adrenaline-pumped lifestyle of this inspired and inspiring designer.

What happens if you forget to put your position copy in Latin

If your client doesn't have copy ready, don't put in position text! Use Lorem Ipsum, which is obviously not the final version.
The package in this photo slipped past the designer, proofreader, and printer because it looked too similar to what belonged there.

Outside Cover Draft

So here's where I'm currently at in regards to cover concept. I didn't take this picture so I found a working stand-in. While the image isn't mine the concept is the same, I plan on getting out and taking photos in the woods or at a park where I can later saturate the image in photoshop.

Magazine Cover Drafts - GRD4100

Hyun Jin - Taste Magazine

Here is a draft with the name plate and cover photo. I bought some macarons and laid them out in the bowl on top of a napkin and took the photo However, I plan on changing to a photo of a fruit tart or slice of cake that I bought yesterday. Stay tuned!

Edit--

Version 2! New and improved. I bought a slice of raspberry pie and a berry fruit tart, laid them out on a white napkin on top of a black towel over a table, and set up a desk lamp for lighting, then took photos.
